1.Tibau

• The game was played during the Kaul Festival by the melanau community, Sarawak

• Tibau was built from two wooden rods that formed a pyramid and several wooden rods arranged in tiered floors. At the top of the pyramid there is a string of ropes from rattan that will be swinged like a chatter. Players will take turns jumping over the libau until it doesn't swing anymore

• Ancient times, Kaul was a ritual of worship and adoration by the pagan Melanau community to their gods who were called 'ipuk' by some Melanau tribes.

• This ceremony is to show their gratitude to their parents and have been protected from disasters and disease outbreaks. As a token of gratitude, they will provide dishes in the form of yellow glutinous rice, betel nut, bertih padi and nipah leaf cigarettes in accordance with the daily routine of the local community.

• Some types of cakes are also a mandatory dish that will be placed in a plate made from the leaves of the nipah tree and placed in a container called, serahang (seraheng).

• However, this worship ceremony (kaul) has turned into a festival after many in the Melanau community converted to Christianity or Islam. What you see today is a celebration to commemorate the legacy traditions of our ancestors and does not involve any veneration.


How to play

How to play

3.Wau Bulan

•This 'Wau' game is also known as 'layang-layang'. The kite game is very popular among the villagers.

• This game has been played since the 15th century. Wau is still popular and played in areas such as Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis.

• Wau are created in various forms and have their own names such as bird kite, stingray kite, frog kite, parrot kite, peacock kite, cat kite, jala budi kite, kebayan kite, sewah kite and western kite.

• the 'Wau bulan' is very popular with the Malays. Pattern designs usually with batik motifs will adorn most of the kites produced and are colored in a variety of colors.

• Apart from being used as toys, kites are also the result of handicrafts and wall decorations

• Wau games are usually played after harvest. Wau is played by two people, one holding the wau and the other will hold the rope
